B.S., Electrical Engineering, 1987, Aleppo University, Syria Appointments: 8/2001 to present, Dr. Hazem Refai has been an Assistant Professor at the Telecommunications Systems program of the University of Oklahoma- Tulsa, OK. He is leading the effort in developing wireless communication and network graduate courses, laboratories, and research. During 7/1998 to 8/2001, Dr. Hazem Refai was a visiting Professor at the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK. He taught undergraduate as well as graduate courses. In the period 9/1993 to 8/12001, Dr. Hazem Refai was a Graduate Student Research Assistant from 9/1994 to 4/1996, and then he became a full time Research Associate with joint appointment between the School of Electrical & Computer Eng. (ECE) and the School of Petroleum and Geological Eng. (P&GE) of the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK. With ECE, He played a key role in the GPS research program to determine the required navigational performance of the GPS augmented with wide area corrections or local area corrections for the development of precision simple and complex Terminal Instrument Procedures. He developed mathematical models for the prediction of the operational performance of these navigation systems in a wide variety of aircraft. This research work also involved the development of hardware interface and software algorithms to integrate the Rockwell Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) sensor in a navigation system. He was Involved in the early stages of the development of Local Area Augmentation System (LAAS) station, the flight test data acquisition system, and data analysis and validation. The research is funded by the FAA for a cumulative amount of $1,000,000. With P&GE, Dr Hazem Refai conducted research to model the characteristics of fracturing fluids at the Well Construction Technology Center (WCTC). The research is funded by the DOE and GRI, $17,000,000. This work involved the development of a fiber optic vision system to real-time capture images of fluids flowing through the high pressure simulator. It also involved building data networks for real time data collection and analysis. Courses:
